Vettes by the Lake

Mississippi - Two things get Joe Miceli's motor running: Corvettes and charity.

Luckily for this self-described "obsessive-compulsive automobile person" (and the Make-A-Wish Foundation), he has found an outlet for those passions in the Mississippi Corvette Club and its upcoming fundraiser, Vettes by the Lake.

"When I was elected president in January, being very involved in the community with car organizations and nonprofit organizations, I thought it was important for the club to continue our community involvement," Miceli recounts.

At its first meeting of the year, the Corvette Club decided to have an all-Corvette show to benefit a charity.

It unanimously chose the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a nonprofit group dedicated to fulfilling the wishes of terminally ill children.

"It was what they do for the children and what they stand for," Miceli says. "We all have a soft side for children and we figured this is the organization we want to put the show on for and we want the profits and proceeds going to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi."

After making that decision, Miceli and his team set to work with the sizable task of rallying support, acquiring sponsorships from Bank Plus, Ergon and Rogers Dabbs Chevrolet to name a few.

"I've been working on this show for four months now," an enthusiastic Miceli shares. "The exciting thing about this show is how much money we can raise for Make-A-Wish while having fun doing it."

Rev up: Besides the Corvettes, there will be a host of attractions like food (supplied by HoneyBaked Ham), ice cream and live music to keep the whole family occupied.

There will also be a special live auction with a special item on the block for sports fans along with tires and tools.

"We are going to be auctioning a jersey signed by Eli Manning," Miceli divulges. "That is going to be our No. 1 auctioned item."

If all goes according to plan, the club hopes to make this an annual event that will be a reliable benefactor to its chosen charity.

"We want as many people to come and register and show their cars so that we can get more people there and raise more money for Make-A-Wish," Miceli says. "We're excited about it, we really are."
