BOSCAWEN, N.H. -- The heavy, wet snow from Wednesday's storm is being blamed for destroying a warehouse that housed seven Corvettes.
Paul Raymond, owner of Corvette Country, was too overcome with emotion to speak about the damage done to the cars, according to a friend and his son. The two-story building buckled under the weight of the heavy snow. One of the cars inside was a 1964 vintage coupe worth about $80,000.
"It's very devastating," said John Milliken, Raymond's friend. "This is his livelihood. Whether he'll be able to recover from this is very unlikely."
"He was just talking about it a couple of days ago, how it really wasn't covered in snow like the other buildings were," said his son, Paul Raymond Jr. "This was the least of his worries. His old buildings had so much more snow compared to this one."
Paul Raymond Jr. said his father believes he can save the 1964 Corvette and another from 1969, but he can't even see the rest under the rubble, and they're not insured.
"I expected at least one wall to be standing, and there's just nothing left, which is sad," his son said.
The cars had been moved to the building one year ago. An excavator will sift through the rubble on Friday to see if any other cars can be salvaged.
