Two Castro Valley, California teens, 18- year-old Clark Wright and his passenger, 17-year-old Sarah Streicher, were killed shortly after midnight on Tuesday in a high-speed crash on westbound Dublin Canyon Road.
The sports car Wright was driving was demolished after it hit a power pole, flipped over and smashed into a fence bordering I-580.
“We believe the driver of the 1997 Corvette came with the driver of a BMW M3 to the Rowell Rodeo area with the intention of racing back to Castro Valley,” said CHP Officer Steve Creel. He said the Corvette driver apparently lost control while maneuvering one of the curves in the downgrade of road and hit the curb, causing the car to flip over.
Creel said the Corvette, registered to Wright’s father, was traveling at an “incredible speed” to have left the nearly 800 feet of tire skid marks found on the roadway. “This is one of the longest collision scenes I’ve ever seen,” he said.
