FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – An off-duty Houston police officer was involved in a deadly head-on crash on Friday that closed the intersection of FM 1464 at Beechnut in Fort Bend County, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the off-duty HPD officer was driving a Chevy Tahoe when he veered into the lane of oncoming traffic and collided with a C5 Corvette Z06 at the intersection of Beechnut and Westmoor.
The Corvette driver, identified as 26-year-old Brian Manring, was killed.
The officer was injured, according to investigators. He has not been identified.
Deputies believe that the off-duty officer had been drinking and asked him to take a field sobriety test, but the officer refused, deputies said.
