ATLANTA (11 ALIVE TV) — Georgia State Patrol troopers are thankful the end of a high-speed chase and crash ended with no fatalities after the high-end cars they were chasing caused multiple accidents early Saturday.
According to GSP, two Corvettes were seen speeding and “traveling recklessly” near East Wesley Road just before 3 a.m.
According to Sgt. First Class John Cronin, troopers began following the sports cars and attempted to stop the drivers, but instead, they sped off to try to flee authorities.
Troopers chased both the cars, but at some point, lost sight of one of the Corvettes.
They continued following the driver of the other silver Corvette, who struck a center median, causing significant damage to the car’s left front wheel and undercarriage.
It wasn’t enough to make the driver give up, though, and he kept driving on three wheels at least a half a mile before hitting a Hyundai trying to turn at Piedmont Road and Lindbergh Way.
But troopers said even that didn’t stop him. Authorities told an 11Alive News crew the driver continued for another block before hitting a Chevrolet Malibu from behind, causing the Chevy to sideswipe another car. The driver then hit the rear of another car, a Mercedes, before finally coming to a stop. The damage totaled the high-end car.
“He had every intention of getting away from us in any manor he had available to him,” Cronin said.
