Watch a Claimed-Stock Corvette Z06 Lay Down a 10.41-Second Quarter Mile
Description C7 Z06 A8 Stock Tire Record. Maryland International Raceway 12/4/15
From Road and Track Magazine:
We already knew the Corvette Z06 is fast. That isn’t really up for debate. When R&T tested a model with a manual transmission, it hit 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and did the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds at 124.8 mph. By almost any standard of speed, that’s quite fast.
But if the video above is accurate, the Corvette Z06 may be capable of even quicker runs than we realized, especially with the automatic transmission. In the clip, the car runs a 10.41-second quarter mile—more than a second faster than the time we set.
With modifications and different tires, that number isn’t unbelievable, but the owner says he hasn’t made any modifications to his car. That’s right—the car and tires are reportedly all stock. A claim like that we just had to investigate.
We spoke with Will Farmer, the owner of the car in question, and according to him, getting the Z06 to lay down such a quick run was a matter of maximizing tire air pressure along with the car’s launch RPM and the track mode. In an email, Farmer also said that the ambient conditions, including density altitude and air pressure, were optimal that day.
As far as reliability goes, Farmer said he had a minor electrical issue that’s since been fixed, but other than that, his car hasn’t had any other problems at about 1800 miles. Farmer also noted that the car keeps getting faster since he started racing it at 500 miles, so this might not be the last time we hear from him, either.
